Handling and Storage of Polyvinyl Alcohol

Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) is a commonly used water-soluble polymer material. While it is inherently stable and poses no major hazards, it generates dust easily in powder form and is highly hygroscopic; therefore, proper handling and storage are crucial for ensuring product quality and mitigating safety risks.
Operations should be conducted in a well-ventilated environment to minimize dust generation. Personnel must wear dust masks, gloves, and safety goggles to prevent dust inhalation and contact with the eyes or skin. Open flames and smoking are strictly prohibited in the work area, and equipment must be properly grounded to prevent static electricity and hazards caused by dust accumulation.

Packaging must remain sealed at all times, and materials should be stacked neatly and categorized. Storage alongside oxidizing agents or corrosive chemicals is strictly prohibited. The warehouse must be equipped with appropriate firefighting equipment and ventilation aisles; dust must be cleaned regularly, and measures taken to prevent moisture, dust accumulation, and fire hazards. Expired or waste materials must be collected separately and disposed of properly in accordance with environmental regulations; do not discard them indiscriminately.
